Lance Stroll
Aston Martin Aramco F1 TeamBio
Lance Stroll was born on October 29, 1998, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The son of billionaire fashion mogul Lawrence Stroll, Lance had access to the best karting equipment and coaching from a young age, but his results in the junior formulae proved his talent was genuine. He won the Italian F4 Championship in 2014 and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2016, beating future F1 drivers like Maximilian Günther and Nick Cassidy. Stroll made his F1 debut with Williams in 2017 at just 18 years old. In only his eighth Grand Prix, he finished third at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, becoming the youngest Canadian to score an F1 podium and one of the youngest podium finishers in F1 history. He added a front-row start at the Italian Grand Prix in treacherous wet conditions, demonstrating his natural feel for a car in the rain. The move to Racing Point (formerly Force India, later Aston Martin) came in 2019 after his father led a consortium that purchased the Force India team out of administration. Critics questioned whether Stroll's seat was earned or bought, but he silenced many doubters with strong performances over the following seasons. The 2020 season was a breakthrough. Stroll qualified third at the Turkish Grand Prix in the wet, narrowly missing out on pole position, and finished on the podium. He also led the race at the Sakhir Grand Prix before mechanical issues intervened. These performances showed his raw speed when conditions suited him. As the team evolved into Aston Martin with the ambitious Silverstone factory project, Stroll has been a constant presence, providing stability and experience. His consistency, particularly in changeable conditions where his car control shines, makes him a valuable asset to the team's long-term championship ambitions. While he may not grab headlines as often as some of his peers, Stroll's racecraft has steadily improved throughout his career.
