Pierre Gasly
Alpine F1 TeamBio
Pierre Gasly was born on February 7, 1996, in Rouen, Normandy, France. He began karting at a young age and showed immediate promise, winning French karting championships before moving to single-seater racing. He progressed through Formula Renault, Formula 3, and GP2 (now F2), building an impressive junior career within the Red Bull Junior Team programme. Gasly made his F1 debut with Toro Rosso in 2017, initially as a replacement before earning a full-time seat for 2018. His performances were solid enough to earn a promotion to Red Bull Racing alongside Max Verstappen for 2019 — the seat every Red Bull junior dreams of. However, the Red Bull promotion proved to be too much too soon. Gasly struggled to match Verstappen's pace and was demoted back to Toro Rosso after just 12 races — a humiliation that would have broken many drivers. Instead of crumbling, Gasly used the experience as motivation. He finished the 2019 season strongly, including a stunning second place at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Then came the moment that defined his career. On September 6, 2020, at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Gasly won the race in extraordinary circumstances. In a chaotic race featuring red flags and safety cars, Gasly held off Carlos Sainz to take a sensational victory for what was then AlphaTauri. The victory was dedicated to his close friend Anthoine Hubert, who had tragically died in a Formula 2 crash at Spa in 2019. The emotional scenes on the podium — with Gasly in tears — remain one of the most powerful moments in recent F1 history. Gasly continued to deliver outstanding performances at AlphaTauri, consistently scoring points and outperforming the car's capabilities. His results earned him a move to Alpine for 2023, where he stepped into a larger team with greater resources. At Alpine, Gasly has continued to fight for points and podiums, establishing himself as a reliable, quick, and determined competitor. Known for his resilience, positive attitude, and ability to bounce back from adversity, Gasly's journey from Red Bull reject to race winner and established F1 driver is one of the most inspiring stories in modern motorsport. He remains a popular figure both in the paddock and among fans worldwide.
