Mercedes Acknowledges Ferrari's Superior Launch Performance as Russell Points to Key Weakness
George Russell has conceded that Ferrari possesses a competitive edge over Mercedes in the crucial opening moments of Formula 1 races. The Mercedes driver has identified the team's start procedure as an area where they are currently falling short compared to their Maranello rivals.

Mercedes finds itself grappling with a notable disadvantage at the start line, according to George Russell. The British driver has openly acknowledged that Ferrari has managed to establish superiority in one of the most critical phases of grand prix racing—the launch off the grid.
Russell's admission highlights a specific technical domain where the Silver Arrows are struggling to match the Scuderia's capability. The Mercedes squad appears to be "stumbling" through their starting procedures, a weakness that could prove costly throughout the 2026 season as races are frequently decided in those opening seconds and early laps.
The revelation underscores the competitive intensity currently gripping the championship battle, with Ferrari demonstrating particular prowess in executing clean, powerful getaways. For Mercedes, addressing this deficiency will be paramount as they work to close the gap and reclaim performance parity with their Italian adversaries.
