The opening day of practice at Albert Park provided crucial insights into the competitive landscape of the 2026 season, as all 11 championship contenders took to the track for their first official test of the year. Australian Grand Prix Friday Sessions Reveal Early 2026 Championship Pecking Order

The 2026 Formula 1 season is well underway, with all 11 teams that will compete for this year's World Championship now actively gathering data on the Albert Park circuit during Friday's opening practice sessions. The significance of these early running sessions cannot be overstated, as the paddock looks to establish a clearer picture of competitive strength following the inconclusive nature of Bahrain's pre-season testing program.

Friday's pair of one-hour practice runs at the Australian Grand Prix venue have begun to paint a more definitive picture of where each team currently stands. With considerable doubt surrounding the true hierarchy coming into the season's first official weekend, the real-world conditions and competitive head-to-head comparisons provided by actual race weekend practice have proven invaluable in clarifying the competitive situation.
