Leclerc Acknowledges Mercedes' Commanding Pace as Ferrari Struggles to Keep Up in Melbourne
Charles Leclerc has conceded that Mercedes has established itself as the pace-setter following the first day of practice at the 2026 Australian Grand Prix. While Ferrari demonstrated competitive form during the initial session, the Silver Arrows appear to have pulled ahead as the weekend progresses.

The Mercedes outfit has made a formidable impression during Friday's running at Albert Park, according to Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, who believes the Brackley-based team could be poised for a dominant weekend in Australia.
Although the Scuderia showed encouraging signs of competitiveness in the opening practice session, Leclerc acknowledged that Mercedes has since moved to the forefront of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver's assessment suggests that the championship contenders may face a challenging battle against the high-performing Mercedes package throughout the remainder of the weekend.
The early indications from the opening day of track action paint a picture of Mercedes establishing a clear performance edge, despite Ferrari's initial show of strength. With multiple sessions still to come before Sunday's race, Leclerc's candid remarks underline just how crucial the development trajectory could prove for Ferrari's competitiveness in the coming days.
