In the aftermath of a triumphant debut victory, Kimi Antonelli's father Marco took the opportunity to express his gratitude toward Mercedes team principal and CEO Toto Wolff. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver dominated proceedings from the outset, having secured the coveted top grid spot heading into the second round of the 2026 season. Throughout the race at Shanghai, Antonelli demonstrated maturity beyond his years, successfully managing a competitive battle against multiple challengers including teammate George Russell and Ferrari's formidable pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
The young Italian's ability to maintain his advantage despite the relentless pressure from the field highlighted the potential that has long surrounded his career. With his father's public acknowledgment of Wolff's support and mentorship, the moment underscored not only a personal milestone for the Antonelli family but also validation of the Mercedes team's commitment to nurturing emerging talent within its ranks.
