Monthly Overtake Excellence

Celebrating Motorsport's Most Daring Moments

Formula 1 racing has always thrived on moments of pure driver skill and courageous decision-making. Among the sport's most exhilarating elements is the perfectly executed overtake—that critical instant when a driver commits to a high-risk maneuver, executing with precision and bravery to gain a position. Recognizing these standout moments is the purpose of the Crypto.com Overtake of the Month Award, a monthly recognition program that honors the drivers who produce the most challenging and daring passing displays throughout the racing calendar.

The award represents more than just a statistical recognition of position changes. It embodies the essence of competitive racing spirit, rewarding drivers who demonstrate exceptional racecraft, technical mastery, and the willingness to take calculated risks in pursuit of track position. Each month during the 2026 season, the Formula 1 community celebrates the driver whose overtaking maneuver best exemplifies these qualities.

Dual-Judged Excellence

What distinguishes the Crypto.com Overtake of the Month Award is its comprehensive evaluation methodology. The award draws judgment from two distinct sources: the passionate global fanbase and a specialized expert panel of judges. This dual-assessment approach ensures that recognition extends beyond simple statistical measures to capture both the objective technical merit and the emotional impact of the overtaking display.

Fan voting represents the grassroots perspective of Formula 1 enthusiasts worldwide. These are the viewers who watch every qualifying session and race, who understand the nuances of track position, tire strategy, and competitive dynamics. Their votes reflect which moments resonated most strongly with the global audience, capturing overtakes that generated excitement and proved memorable in the collective consciousness of the sport.

Complementing the fan vote, the expert panel brings technical knowledge and professional insight to the evaluation process. These judges possess deep understanding of racing fundamentals, vehicle dynamics, and the complex variables that make certain overtakes more impressive than others. They assess factors such as the difficulty of the maneuver relative to track characteristics, the speed differential between vehicles, and the precision required to execute the move safely.

The Nature of Courageous Racing

The award specifically celebrates overtakes that demand courage from the driver. In Formula 1, not all passing maneuvers carry equal risk or demonstrate equal skill. Some occur on straightaways where aerodynamic superiority determines the outcome, while others happen in complex corner sequences requiring extraordinary bravery and commitment.

The most challenging overtakes typically occur at points on the circuit where track design naturally discourages passing attempts. These might involve divebombs into corners with limited run-off areas, outbraking competitors into tight braking zones, or executing ambitious late-apex maneuvers that leave minimal margin for error. These are the moments that separate adequate drivers from exceptional racers—instances where success depends not just on vehicle performance but on driver skill, nerve, and racecraft.

Recognition Throughout the Season

By operating on a monthly basis throughout the 2026 season, the Crypto.com Overtake of the Month Award provides regular recognition for driver excellence and maintains consistent engagement with fans. Rather than waiting until season's end for accolades, this format allows the sport to celebrate noteworthy achievements as they unfold across the calendar.

This structure also ensures that drivers competing in earlier-season races receive the same opportunity for recognition as those racing during the championship's final stages. Each race weekend presents new opportunities for drivers to produce impressive displays of overtaking mastery, and the monthly format captures excellence across the entire campaign.

The award ultimately serves to highlight one of Formula 1's most pure and captivating elements: the raw skill and courage required for drivers to execute difficult passes against equally talented competitors. By celebrating these moments through fan engagement and expert evaluation, the Crypto.com Overtake of the Month Award recognizes the athleticism and bravery that defines modern Formula 1 racing.
