Article 11.4
Plank Chamfer Application
Chapter: APPENDIX C2: REGULATION VOLUMES
In Simple Terms
After the floor of an F1 car is fully designed according to regulations, the sharp edges on the bottom must be rounded off (chamfered) to specific measurements. This is a safety and technical compliance requirement that prevents damage and ensures cars meet the exact specifications.
- Chamfers must be applied to the lower edges of the plank after the volume is fully defined
- Specific dimensions for chamfers are mandated by regulations to ensure consistency across all cars
- This is a technical compliance requirement checked during car inspections
- Proper chamfering prevents sharp edges that could cause damage or create unfair aerodynamic advantages
Official FIA Text
