Article 3.3
PU Manufacturer Warranty on Intellectual Property
Chapter: SECTION C: TECHNICAL REGULATIONS
In Simple Terms
The Power Unit manufacturer guarantees that their engines don't copy anyone else's patented technology or designs. If someone claims the engine infringes on their intellectual property, the manufacturer takes full responsibility for any legal costs or damages rather than the FIA or F1 having to pay.
- PU manufacturers must guarantee their engines are original and don't violate anyone's patents or intellectual property
- If an infringement claim occurs, the manufacturer covers all legal liability and costs
- The FIA and F1 commercial rights holders are protected from IP-related lawsuits
- This ensures F1 teams and the sport aren't exposed to expensive intellectual property disputes
