Repairs of Power Unit components by patching
Article 3.8
Repairs of Power Unit components by patching
Chapter: APPENDIX C5: HOMOLOGATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF POWER UNITS, FUEL AND OIL FOR 2026-2030
In Simple Terms
Teams can temporarily patch damaged Power Unit parts with similar or composite materials if the damage is small and localized. However, if they use a different material for the patch, that component can't be used again in the next championship season.
- Patches are only allowed for local, minimal damage to Power Unit components
- Same material or composite patches can be used temporarily on any available components
- Different material patches cannot be carried forward to the following championship season
- Repairs must be approved before they can be applied
Official FIA Text
Requests for repair of a Power Unit component in the form of a patch made of the same material or of a composite material, following damage or failure, may be accepted if it is only local and minimal. If accepted, such repair can be applied on a temporary basis to all components available. If the repair is made of a different material, such a repair must not be present on the components used during the following Championship season.
