In Simple Terms
The clutch is the mechanical component that connects and disconnects the engine from the gearbox, allowing the driver to smoothly engage power to the wheels or shift gears. It consists of rotating parts, plates, springs, and bearings that work together as a system mounted between the power unit and gearbox.
- The clutch assembly includes the rotating component, basket, plates, springs, and all fixings that attach it to either the power unit or gearbox
- All clutch components must be securely fastened to ensure reliability during operation
- The spigot bearing supports the rotating shaft and is part of the regulated clutch system
- Teams cannot modify clutch design beyond what is permitted to maintain competitive fairness
