In Simple Terms
Breaking the cost cap has serious consequences. Minor breaches might mean fines or reduced aero testing time. Major breaches can result in points deductions (even losing championship titles) or being excluded from the championship entirely. Red Bull's 2021 breach led to reduced wind tunnel time.
- Minor breach: fines, reduced testing
- Major breach: points deduction possible
- Extreme cases: championship exclusion
- Reduced future cost cap as penalty

Breach of the Financial Regulations may result in a range of penalties including public reprimand, deduction of Championship points, reduction of the Cost Cap for subsequent seasons, reduction of aerodynamic testing, and/or exclusion from the Championship.
