Article 9C
Primary heat exchangers
Chapter: C7.4.1 b
In Simple Terms
This rule defines what counts as a primary heat exchanger in an F1 car - basically the cooling system that keeps the engine from overheating. It includes the cooler itself, any electrical components attached directly to it, and all the pipes and fittings that connect everything together.
- Primary heat exchangers must follow the specifications detailed in Appendix C1
- Electrical and electronic components are allowed only if directly fitted to the cooler
- The assembly includes fittings, hoses, pipes, and their mounting brackets
- This is a structural component definition rather than a performance regulation
