Suspension of a Resumption Procedure

Chapter: B5

In Simple Terms

If the race is restarting behind the safety car but the track becomes too dangerous (wet, debris, etc.), the FIA can immediately stop the restart procedure and send out a 'RESUMPTION PROCEDURE SUSPENDED' message to all teams. This means the safety car stays out and another attempt to restart will be made once conditions improve.

  • The restart can be halted at any point after the safety car restart laps begin if track conditions deteriorate
  • All teams receive an official 'RESUMPTION PROCEDURE SUSPENDED' message when this happens
  • The safety car remains deployed while conditions are reassessed
  • The FIA prioritizes driver safety over completing the restart immediately
Official FIA Text

If at any time after the laps behind the safety car at the resumption have commenced track conditions are considered unsuitable to resume competition, the message "RESUMPTION PROCEDURE SUSPENDED" will be sent to all Competitors.
