Rolling Start Resumption Procedure

In Simple Terms

When the Race Director decides conditions are safe enough, they signal a rolling start to resume the race. The safety car pulls in, the pit lane closes, and the lead driver can control the restart pace and choose to drop back if needed before the race officially begins.

  • Rolling start resumes when Race Director deems it safe and broadcasts 'ROLLING START' message
  • Pit lane exit is closed during the rolling start procedure
  • Safety car orange lights turn off as it exits
  • Lead driver has the right to dictate pace and can deliberately fall back before restart

In the case of a rolling start resumption, when the Race Director decides it is safe, the message 'ROLLING START' will be sent to all Competitors. The pit lane exit will be closed and orange lights on the safety car will be extinguished. The first Car in line behind the safety car may dictate the pace and may fall back.
