Article B5.9.3
Multiple Extra Formation Laps Possible
Chapter: B5
In Simple Terms
If a problem occurs on the grid that isn't serious enough to cancel the start completely, the Race Director can order the drivers to do another warm-up lap before attempting to start again. This can happen multiple times if needed until the issue is resolved.
- The Race Director has discretion to call for extra formation laps if grid problems arise
- Multiple extra formation laps are permitted if necessary
- This rule only applies when the problem doesn't require aborting the start entirely
- Drivers must comply with the Race Director's decision to complete another lap
Official FIA Text
If another problem arises which does not necessitate the start to be aborted (see Article B5.8), the Race Director may decide another extra formation lap is required, in such case drivers must carry out another extra formation lap.
