Driver Causing Extra Formation Lap Must Start from Pit Lane

Chapter: B5

In Simple Terms

If a driver causes the field to do an extra formation lap (like by breaking down or causing a problem), they must start the race from the pit lane exit instead of the grid. If they don't follow this rule, they'll get a Stop-and-Go penalty during the race.

  • Driver responsible for extra formation lap must start from pit lane exit
  • Stop-and-Go penalty is given if the driver fails to comply with pit lane start requirement
  • This is a consequence for causing disruption to the race start procedure
  • The penalty applies specifically to the driver who caused the formation lap delay
Official FIA Text

Any driver who caused an extra formation lap must start from end of Pit Lane. A Stop-and-Go Penalty will be imposed on any driver who fails to start the TTCS from the Pit Lane.
