Failure Mode Handling

Chapter: B7

In Simple Terms

If the system that tells a driver when Override Mode is active breaks down, the team can ask the Race Director for permission to manually control the system. However, the team is fully responsible for making sure their driver only uses Override Mode when it's actually supposed to be enabled.

  • Teams can request manual operation of Override Mode if the notification system fails
  • Permission must be granted by the Race Director before manual operation
  • Teams bear full responsibility for ensuring proper use of Override Mode
  • Drivers must only activate Override Mode when authorized to do so
Official FIA Text

In the event of a failure in the system which notifies the driver that Override Mode is enabled, the Competitor may ask the Race Director for permission to operate the system manually. The onus will be on the Competitor to ensure their driver only uses Override Mode when enabled.
