Power Unit Sealing
Chapter: B8
In Simple Terms
The FIA puts official seals on engine parts before they're used in a race to prevent tampering. After the race ends, additional seals are placed on the used engine components within 2 hours to make sure teams can't run them again or take them apart between races.
- Seals are applied before the Power Unit's first competition use
- Additional seals are added within 2 hours after the race finishes in parc fermé
- Seals prevent the ICE (internal combustion engine), TC (turbocharger), and MGU-K (motor generator unit kinetic) from being used or dismantled between events
- This ensures engine parts cannot be illegally modified or reused without authorization
Official FIA Text
The FIA will attach seals to relevant Power Unit elements prior to their first use at a Competition. Within two hours of the end of post-Race parc fermé, additional seals will be applied to all used ICE, TC and MGU-K elements to ensure they cannot be run or dismantled between Competitions.
