Article C10.9.3
Wheel Fastener Retention
Chapter: C10
In Simple Terms
F1 cars must have a special two-stage safety system that keeps the wheel nuts secured in place. This system works both when the nut is fully tightened and also during the process of being screwed on, preventing wheels from coming loose during a race.
- Dual-stage retention devices are mandatory on all F1 cars
- The system must secure wheel fasteners at full tightened position
- The system must also secure fasteners during the screwing-on process before they engage the axle thread
- This safety feature prevents dangerous wheel detachments during races
Official FIA Text
