Cockpit floor test
Chapter: C13.4
In Simple Terms
The cockpit floor (where the driver sits) must be strong enough to withstand a heavy downward force of 75,000 Newtons (roughly 7.6 tons) applied to a specific point. After this test, the floor can only bend slightly—less than 3mm—and must not crack or break.
- A 200mm circular pad applies 75kN of downward force to the cockpit floor
- The structure must not fail or break under this extreme load
- Permanent deformation must be less than 3mm after the 1-minute test
- This ensures the cockpit remains rigid and safe during impacts and crashes
