Front Impact Structure Homologation
Chapter: C13.6
In Simple Terms
F1 teams must submit two identical front impact structures (the crash protection parts at the front of the car) for safety testing. Each one goes through push-off tests first, then different dynamic crash tests. If a car fails these crash tests, the FIA can allow them to test again.
- Two identical front impact structures must be presented for official approval
- Each structure undergoes push-off tests before dynamic crash testing
- The two structures are tested with different dynamic test procedures (Test 1 and Test 2)
- Failed dynamic tests can be retested at the FIA's discretion
Official FIA Text
Two identical FIS presented for homologation. One subjected to push-off tests followed by dynamic test 1; second to push-off test followed by dynamic test 2. Failed dynamic tests may be repeated at FIA discretion.
