Connecting Rod Construction
Chapter: C15
In Simple Terms
F1 connecting rods must be made from a single solid piece of iron or titanium alloy without any welding or joining, except for the bolted cap at the big end and the pressed-in bush at the small end. This ensures structural integrity and prevents teams from using unauthorized assembly methods to gain advantages.
- Connecting rods must be machined from a single solid piece of material
- Only iron or titanium-based alloys are permitted materials
- The big end cap can be bolted on, and the small end bush can be pressed in - these are the only allowed attachments
- No welded or joined assemblies are allowed anywhere else on the component
