Component Definition

Chapter: C17

In Simple Terms

When F1 regulations refer to a 'component,' they're not just talking about individual parts—they also mean complete assemblies made up of multiple parts working together. This means teams can't get around the rules by swapping out individual pieces if the whole assembly needs to be changed.

  • A 'component' includes both single parts and complete assemblies of multiple parts
  • This prevents teams from circumventing regulations by only replacing individual pieces within an assembly
  • Complete assemblies are treated with the same regulatory restrictions as individual components
  • This definition applies across all technical regulations regarding parts and equipment
