SSC Modification and Safety

Chapter: C17

In Simple Terms

F1 teams cannot modify the safety cell (SSC) components unless they're very minor changes that are officially allowed. If a team finds any safety, reliability, or compatibility problems, they must tell their supplier and the FIA right away. Only in special situations can the FIA approve modifications.

  • SSC components have strict modification limits - only minor, explicitly permitted changes are allowed
  • Teams must immediately report any safety, reliability, or compatibility issues to both their supplier and the FIA
  • The FIA can authorize modifications in exceptional circumstances only
  • Teams are responsible for ensuring their SSC meets all safety requirements
