In Simple Terms
F1 has a system where certain car designs and technology are made available to all teams equally. Some of these components are Open Source Components (OSC) that teams can use freely, while others are Not Transferable Open Source Components (OSCNT) with more restrictions on how they can be shared or modified.
- Open Source Components (OSC) are designs and technology shared equally among all F1 teams
- Not Transferable Open Source Components (OSCNT) have additional restrictions on transfer and modification rights
- These components are made available through specific mechanisms outlined in the F1 regulations
- The system aims to level the playing field by providing equal access to certain technical innovations
