Article C18.2.5
LPUC Intellectual Property Ownership
Chapter: C18
In Simple Terms
Power Unit manufacturers must own and control all the technical information about their engines. However, they can use specialized parts or services that are commercially available to everyone else, so no team gets an unfair advantage by having secret suppliers.
- PU manufacturers have exclusive ownership of their engine technology and data
- Specialized components and services are allowed if commercially available to all teams
- Sub-components can be sourced externally if they're not exclusive to one manufacturer
- Prevents unfair competitive advantages through proprietary supplier relationships
Official FIA Text
PU Manufacturers must have exclusive ownership/rights to all LPUC information. Specialist IP may be used if commercially available to all. Sub-components/services permitted if commercially available.
