Defined Specification Power Unit Components Definition

Chapter: C18

In Simple Terms

DSPUCs are specific Power Unit parts that the FIA (Formula 1's governing body) has set exact technical rules for. These parts are either made by the engine manufacturer or supplied by outside companies, but in either case, the FIA controls what they can look like and how they must work.

  • The FIA defines the exact technical specifications that these Power Unit components must meet
  • DSPUCs can be manufactured by the Power Unit manufacturer or sourced from approved third-party suppliers
  • The FIA maintains control over the design, manufacturing standards, and intellectual property of these components
  • These are standardized parts where teams cannot deviate from FIA-approved specifications
