Scoop to Drum

Chapter: C3

In Simple Terms

This rule defines how F1 cars can shape the bodywork where the air scoop meets the drum (a cylindrical aerodynamic component). Teams can blend these two parts together with a smooth curved edge, but that curve can't be sharper than a 20mm radius.

  • The scoop and drum are separate aerodynamic volumes that must be combined according to trim specifications
  • A fillet radius (smooth curve) of maximum 20mm is permitted at the intersection between scoop and drum
  • The combined shape must follow strict geometric rules to ensure all cars meet the same technical standards
Official FIA Text

Scooped Drum Bodywork results from Trim and Combination of respective Drum and Scoop. Fillet Radius no greater than 20mm may be applied at intersection between these volumes.
