Nose Aperture

Chapter: C3

In Simple Terms

The nose of an F1 car must have an opening (aperture) for air intake that fits within specific dimensions and positioning rules. This opening can be at most 750mm² in area, must only allow air to flow inward, and must be located entirely in the front section of the car ahead of a defined reference point.

  • Nose aperture maximum area is 750mm² - any larger violates regulations
  • The opening must be positioned entirely forward of position XF = −1100 on the car's reference grid
  • Air can only flow into the aperture (influx only) - no outflow allowed through this opening
  • The aperture dimensions can rotate within ±10° limits to accommodate aerodynamic design flexibility
Official FIA Text
