Article C3.17.1
Suspension Fairings General Requirements
Chapter: C3
In Simple Terms
F1 teams must cover most of their suspension parts with fairings (protective shells) to reduce drag and improve aerodynamics. These fairings need to be completely sealed inside so air can't flow through them, except for suspension parts that are already round in shape.
- Suspension fairings are mandatory on nearly all suspension members to minimize aerodynamic drag
- Circular cross-section suspension components are exempt from fairing requirements
- Fairings must be internally sealed with no internal airflow allowed
- Proper sealing ensures the aerodynamic efficiency benefits are maintained
Official FIA Text
Suspension Fairings must be fitted to all suspension members except circular cross section members. Fairings must be internally sealed to prevent any internal airflow.
