Suspension Fairing Coverage and Rigidity

Chapter: C3

In Simple Terms

F1 cars must have fairings (covers) around their suspension parts that are exposed to the air. These covers must be completely rigid with no moving parts, and they must be positioned in the front section of the car (before a specific measurement point called XR = 300).

  • Suspension fairings must completely cover all suspension members and components exposed to airflow
  • Fairings must be rigid with zero degrees of freedom (cannot move or flex)
  • All fairings must be located ahead of the XR = 300 measurement point on the car
  • Covers protect aerodynamic consistency and safety by preventing exposed suspension parts
Official FIA Text

Each Suspension Fairing must fully cover member and mounted components over span exposed to External Air Stream, be rigid with zero degrees of freedom, and lie entirely ahead of XR = 300.
