Driveshaft Fairing
Chapter: C3
In Simple Terms
Teams can add a protective cover around the driveshaft (the shaft that transmits power to the wheels) to reduce air resistance. This fairing must completely cover the driveshaft and any parts attached to it that are exposed to airflow, and it must be sealed internally so air doesn't flow through it.
- Driveshaft fairing is optional but must fully cover the driveshaft and mounted components
- The fairing can only cover parts exposed to the external air stream
- Internal sealing is mandatory to prevent airflow from passing through the fairing
- This aerodynamic device helps reduce drag and improve overall car performance
Official FIA Text
Driveshaft Fairing may be fitted around driveshaft and must cover driveshaft and mounted components over span exposed to External Air Stream. Must be internally sealed to prevent internal airflow.
