Bodywork part of the sprung mass of the car

In Simple Terms

F1 teams can only use specific bodywork parts that are attached to the car's sprung suspension system. The FIA checks if these parts are legal using a standard measurement system before teams add finishing touches like paint or decorative elements.

  • Only bodywork defined in Articles C3.5-C3.13 is allowed as part of the sprung mass
  • Compliance is checked using the Car Coordinate System as the frame of reference
  • Assessments happen before trim and combination operations are applied
  • Fillet applications (smoothing edges) don't affect the initial compliance check
