Article C4.7
Determination of Nominal Tyre Mass
Chapter: C4
In Simple Terms
Before each F1 season starts, the official tyre supplier measures the weight of 50 new dry-weather tyres for each axle (front and rear) to establish a baseline weight standard. This 'nominal tyre mass' is used as the official reference point throughout the championship, and it's adjusted if tyre specifications change during the season.
- Nominal tyre mass is determined by measuring 50 new production dry-weather tyres per axle
- Measurements are taken by the tyre provider and published after the final TCC opportunity day before the championship begins
- The mean (average) mass of these 50 tyres becomes the official baseline for that axle
- Adjustments are made if tyre specifications change during the championship
