Article C5.1.10
Power Unit Breather
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
F1 cars must have a single opening to release fluids from the power unit (engine) to the atmosphere, and this opening must be positioned in a specific location at the rear of the car - behind a certain point, toward the center, and below a height limit. The fluids can only go out, never back into the engine.
- Only one breather outlet allowed per power unit
- Outlet must be positioned behind XR=0, inboard of Y=100, and below Z=400 (specific technical coordinates)
- Breather fluids must vent to atmosphere only - no recirculation back into the power unit is permitted
- This prevents environmental contamination and ensures fair engine performance
Official FIA Text
All Power Unit breather fluids may only vent to atmosphere through single orifice positioned behind XR=0, inboard of Y=100 and below Z=400. No breather fluids may re-enter Power Unit.
