Article C5.1.15
Pop-Off Valve Return Line
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
When a turbocharger's pop-off valve releases excess pressure, any fluid that escapes must be returned through a specific pipe. This return line must be positioned after the compressor gets its air but before the compressor wheel itself, ensuring proper system control and preventing fluid loss.
- Pop-off valve fluids must be captured and returned through a dedicated return line
- The return line connects downstream of the compressor inlet (after air enters)
- The return line must connect upstream of the compressor wheel (before the wheel)
- This prevents environmental contamination and maintains system efficiency
Official FIA Text
All Pop-Off exit fluids must pass through return line connected downstream of compressor inlet specifications and upstream of compressor wheel.
