In Simple Terms
The clutch assembly parts (friction plates, springs, and cover plate) attached to the flywheel don't count toward the flywheel's weight limit. However, if the clutch basket is directly connected to the crankshaft, it's considered part of the flywheel and does count toward its weight.
- Clutch friction plates, springs, and cover plate are excluded from flywheel mass calculations
- The clutch basket connected directly to the crankshaft rear IS classified as flywheel and contributes to total flywheel mass
- This distinction affects how teams design their drivetrain components while staying within weight regulations

Clutch assembly including friction plates, springs, cover plate fitted to Flywheel will not contribute to Flywheel mass. Clutch basket connected directly to crankshaft rear will be classified as flywheel.
