Article C5.1.5
Engine Exhaust Outlets
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
F1 engines must route their exhaust gases out through outlets positioned on the outer edges of the cylinder head, away from the center of the V-shaped engine. This prevents teams from using the engine's center as an exhaust path, which would be unfair and could create aerodynamic advantages.
- Exhaust outlets must be positioned outboard of the cylinder bore centerline
- Exhaust gases cannot exit from within the V-center of the engine
- This rule applies specifically to the cylinder head exhaust paths
- The regulation ensures fair aerodynamic design and prevents performance loopholes
Official FIA Text
