Article C5.11.1
Ancillaries drive requirement
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
Ancillaries (like power steering pumps, alternators, and water pumps) must be powered by the engine or electrical systems. They're allowed to help the car run smoothly, but they can't be used as an additional source of propulsion or power to move the car forward.
- Ancillaries must be mechanically or electrically driven by the car's main systems
- Ancillaries cannot contribute to propelling the car or provide extra driving power
- This rule prevents teams from using auxiliary systems to gain unfair performance advantages
- Ancillaries serve only to support the car's operation (cooling, electrical generation, etc.)
Official FIA Text
