In Simple Terms

The Survival Cell is the protective closed structure that protects the driver and contains critical components like the fuel tank and parts of the battery system. It's designed to keep the driver safe and prevent fuel leaks in an accident. Think of it as the safety capsule of the car that must meet strict structural standards.

  • Forms a continuous closed protective structure around the cockpit and fuel tank
  • Contains the driver's compartment and essential energy storage components
  • Extends from the cockpit forward to a specific technical point (X PU=0) on the car
  • The bottom panel of the battery assembly is considered part of this protective structure

The continuous closed structure containing the fuel tank, the Cockpit and the parts of the Energy Store and MGUK listed in Articles C5.18 and C5.19 which lie ahead of X PU=0. The lower plate of the Energy Store assembly is considered part of the Survival Cell.
