Article C5.19.2
Single Cell Specification Homologation
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
F1 teams can only use one officially approved design of battery cell in their cars. While the connection tabs (Cell Tabs) on these cells can have different shapes to fit better inside the energy storage unit, the actual cell itself must remain the same specification throughout the season.
- Only one homologated cell specification is permitted per team per season
- Cell connection terminals (Cell Tabs) can vary in shape for packaging flexibility
- Shape variations are allowed solely for integration purposes within the Energy Storage system
- This ensures technical standardization while allowing minimal design adaptation
Official FIA Text
Solely a single specification of cell may be homologated, including the same exiting position of the cell connection terminals (Cell Tabs - Article C5.2.26). The Cell Tabs may have different shapes for integration purposes inside the ES.
