ES Design and Installation

Chapter: C5

In Simple Terms

When the external charger isn't plugged in, there shouldn't be any dangerous high voltage electricity accessible between the battery pack and the charging port. This is a safety requirement to protect team members and anyone who might touch the car.

  • High voltage power must be safely isolated when no charger is connected
  • The rule applies to the connection pathway between the main battery enclosure and the external charging connector
  • This is a safety protection measure for personnel working on or around the car
  • The isolation must prevent access 'by any reasonable means' - meaning accidental contact shouldn't expose anyone to danger
Official FIA Text
