High Voltage Off-Board Charging Safety
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
When an F1 car isn't plugged into an external charging station, there can't be any dangerous high voltage electricity exposed or accessible between the car's battery housing and the charging port. This is a safety requirement to protect mechanics, marshals, and anyone else who might come into contact with the car.
- High voltage must be completely isolated when the charger is disconnected
- Both the battery enclosure and charging connector must be safe to touch
- This prevents accidental electrical hazards in the paddock and during transport
- Safety systems must prevent any accessible high voltage between these two components
Official FIA Text
