HV DC Bus Poles
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
The energy store (battery) in an F1 car must have exactly two connection points to the main power system: a positive pole and a negative pole. All other electrical components that need power from the battery must connect through only these two poles, not directly to the battery.
- The Energy Store (ES/battery) has only two poles: ES HV DC+ (positive) and ES HV DC- (negative)
- All components including the Control Unit, DC-DC converter, and other power unit parts must connect exclusively through these two poles
- This standardization ensures consistent electrical architecture and safety across all F1 power units
- Direct connections to the HV DC bus bypassing these poles are prohibited
Official FIA Text
The ES must have only two poles, the ES HV DC+ and ES HV DC-, that are connected to the HV DC Bus. Additionally, the CU-K, the DC-DC Unit and any other PU-CE may only be connected to the HV DC bus via the ES HV DC+ and ES HV DC- poles.
