In Simple Terms
The energy storage system (battery) in F1 cars must have a special gas evacuation system to safely release pressure if a battery cell vents or electronic components explode. This system protects the battery container from being damaged by the force of the gas release.
- Gas evacuation system must be installed in the ES Main Enclosure (battery housing)
- Prevents irreversible mechanical damage to the energy storage system in case of cell venting or electronic explosions
- Safely directs gases away to protect the structural integrity of the battery container

The ES Main Enclosure must be equipped with a gas evacuation system which in case of ES Cell(s) venting or electronic components explosion prevents irreversible mechanical damage to the ESME.
