High Voltage Conductors Protection

Chapter: C5

In Simple Terms

F1 cars have high-voltage electrical systems that power their hybrid engines. This rule requires special safety protection on the power cables outside the main electrical box to prevent dangerous electrical current from reaching certain components if the charging connectors aren't properly plugged in or connected correctly.

  • Protects against accidental high-voltage exposure when ERS charging connectors are disconnected or improperly mated
  • Safety requirement applies only to high-voltage cables outside the main ES (Energy Store) enclosure
  • Must include a system that cuts off voltage on the CU-K side of the contactors when the connection is broken or faulty
  • Prevents electrical hazards for mechanics and safety personnel during pit stops and maintenance
Official FIA Text
