Article C5.21.6
Insulation Monitoring Device
Chapter: C5
In Simple Terms
F1 cars must have a special device that continuously checks whether the high-voltage electrical system is properly insulated from the car's main ground. Think of it like a safety inspector that makes sure electricity doesn't leak where it shouldn't, protecting both the driver and the car's systems.
- Monitors electrical insulation resistance between the car's main ground and all high-voltage components
- Acts as a critical safety system to prevent dangerous electrical leaks
- Must measure the entire conductive high-voltage network on the car
- Ensures the hybrid power system operates safely during races
Official FIA Text
