Oil Tank

Chapter: C5

In Simple Terms

Every F1 car must have exactly one oil tank to store its engine oil. The oil can only be kept in the tank itself and in specific connected parts like oil lines, the engine, oil coolers, turbocharger, and the hybrid system components.

  • Each car must have a single oil tank - no exceptions
  • Oil is only allowed in the tank and pre-approved components (engine, radiators, turbo, hybrid parts)
  • Oil cannot be stored in any other unauthorized locations on the car
  • This regulation ensures fair competition and prevents teams from gaining advantages through non-standard oil storage
Official FIA Text

All cars must be fitted with a single Oil Tank. Oil, as defined in article C16.1.5, may only be contained by the Oil Tank and associated lines, elements defined in item 47 of Appendix C4, ICE, oil radiators/heat-exchangers, Turbocharger, MGUK and MGUK transmission.
