Gearbox Case
Chapter: C
In Simple Terms
The gearbox case is the metal housing that protects all the gearbox and gear-change parts inside it. It's a crucial structural component that holds up the rear suspension and rear wing, transferring all those forces to the engine through special bolts.
- Encloses and protects the gearbox internals and gear-change mechanisms
- Serves as a structural component supporting the rear suspension and aerodynamic loads from the rear wing
- Transfers all forces from the rear suspension and rear wing to the Power Unit via mounting studs
- Must be able to withstand significant stress from both mechanical and aerodynamic sources
Official FIA Text
The structure that encloses the Driveline Components and Gear-Change Components, mounts the rear impact structure, takes all rear suspension loads applied to the sprung mass and aerodynamic loads from the rear wing and transfers them to the Power Unit through the studs.
